Description

Gibraltar

In this excursion to the Natural Reserve of Gibraltar Upper Rock, located in the British overseas territory of Gibraltar, we can see panoramic views of three countries and two continents surrounded by unique vegetation and creatures.

There we can visit the Reserve as well as the spectacular
St. Michael´s Caves, this is the name of a network of caves mostly made of sandstone and found at the upper part of the Natural Reserve of the Rock of Gibraltar at a height of 300 meters above sea level. Lit up in a very special way, this one is the most visited cave of the over 150 caves found in the inside of the Rock of Gibraltar and visited by almost one million people a year.
The Great Siege Tunnels, during the Great Siege of the Spanish and French troops of the Rock during the Eighteenth century, a group of British soldiers excavated a tunnel in the rock enabling placement of artillery to defend the Rock. This first tunnel and the later extensión of it which was used during the World Wars, constitute the reason for the visit. With good (bilingual) information panels and representations with mannequins of the apparel and lifestyle of the armed forces who served in the tunnel, the visit is pleasurable and interesting.

Casemates Square and Main Street

This could be considered the “Main Square” of the town. It has had very diverse uses, going from the scenario of public executions in the past and is a meeting point today. It has restaurants, bars and shops. This is the place chosen by many visitors to have lunch, with fast foods establishments and souvenir shops.
The main street starts from Casemates Square and is approximately half a mile long. It crosses Gibraltar and is pedestrian. On either side of it are all sorts of businesses. There are English and Scottish fashion wear shops, tobacconists, perfume shops, jewellery shops, etc.
